Our Approach

The roles of children-teachers-parents & the environment are all equally important within our schools.

Children
  • We see children as collaborators in their learning with a focus on building relationships with other children, teachers, and people in their community.
  • We see children as protagonists being strong, rich, and capable.
Teachers
  • Our teachers are partners, nurturers, and guides who facilitate children’s exploration of themes, projects, and experiences with open-ended discovery and problem-solving. They learn how to plan and proceed in their work, by listening to the children, and then provide occasions and opportunities for discovery and learning.
  • The teacher is a researcher; who works among a team of professionals engaged in continuous discussion, facilitation & interpretation of the children’s work.

Parents
  • The parent is a partner; participation is considered essential and can take many forms including trust, ideas, skills and communication.

Environment
  • The environment is the third teacher; the design and use of space should encourage encounters, communication and relationships.
  • The environment should be beautiful and organized. Every part should have a purpose and be valued and cared for by the children and adults.

Our Programme

We passionately believe in our authentic child-led, play-based programme, inspired by the Reggio-Emilia philosophy.

Play-based Learning

Play-based Learning

Our programme promotes independence, creativity & confidence. By using open-ended play and art experiences we enable the children to make their own choices and discoveries around learning centers inside and outside of the classroom.

Child-Led Learning

Child-led Learning

We encourage children to explore their ideas and themes, drawn from their interests and enthusiasm, we then document their progress & learning. We further review and revisit the experience with them. When given space and time, children come together naturally; communicating, collaborating, experimenting & solving problems through their play.

How Children Learn at SKY

1
Once children have become familiar & comfortable with their environment and have established relationships with friends and teachers, the teaching team will create opportunities to observe, enquire and listen to the children as they play to discover their interests and wonderings.
2
As the teaching teams become aware of areas of curiosity for the children, they will then work together to guide the children and facilitate their learning in that topic.
3
As the children and teachers explore the topic together as partners & collaborators - the teachers use their knowledge of Early Years Curriculum to notice and record the learning as it occurs. They will highlight key aspects and then challenge the children to go further, dig deeper and ask bigger questions.
4
Everyday in the classrooms, the children are presented with new provocations & invitations to ignite their curiosity. All children have different ideas and ways of exploring, communicating and discovering. All children are respected & valued. We strongly believe every child is capable and full of creativity & curiosity. When given enough space and time, all children - regardless of nationality, language, culture & character will naturally work together, communicating, collaborating, experimenting & solving problems through play.
5
The final stage of any project is reflection, including documentation. As partners of the children we communicate & celebrate our learning journey with the families. As teachers, we acknowledge the learning opportunities that were presented and the developmental goals that were achieved. Finally we collaborate with our team to reflect, ask questions, review outcomes and recognise the wonder!
