At Sky we have a thorough settling process for children and parents. We believe in investing time at the very beginning of the process to ensure your child feels safe and content. We strongly encourage parents to bring their children for a visit.
1. If your child starts at the beginning of the school year this will happen on the ‘Meet the Teacher Day’
2. However if your child enrols after the beginning of term, then we will arrange a special visit to their classroom prior to their first day for them to see their classroom, playground etc. meet their teachers and classmates.
This has been proven to reduce 1st day anxiety and aid a good night’s sleep before school starts – so children arrive fresh and ready for a great first day!
If your child is under three, we encourage families to explore our Sky Play House— a specially designed learning space for infants and toddlers (0-36 months)— which provides a familiar environment for the children as they prepare for enrollment.
Any ‘First day’ can be both exciting and overwhelming. While adults can process change logically, young children may find it overwhelming and challenging as they try to understand why they are in a new place, with new people and wonder when they will see their parents again. In order to minimize the stress for everyone, we encourage families to follow the steps below to ensure a smooth transition period.
If this is the first time your child is attending school, we ask that a parent or caregiver be available to help the child settle during the first few days. This gradual approach builds trust between the child, parent, and teacher, creating a positive and reassuring experience.
If your child has already attended school before and you are confident that they can settle easily, you are welcome to – but not required to stay with him/her after the drop-off.
